The primary goal of roasting is to transform the sulphides to metal oxides or metal sulphates by means of oxidation. These metal oxides or sulphates are then further processed during pyrometallurgical or hydrometallurgical processes. The roasting process is a very important step in metallurgy. The roasting is operated at temperatures below the melting temperature. The released sulphur dioxide is often used for sulphuric acid production. The purpose of the project was to roast different residues. The primary target was a high rate of sulphur dioxide release, which can be used to produce sulphuric acid. Parameters of the roasting process such as influence of time, temperature, gas composition and amount of gas in terms of sulphur dioxide formation during the roasting were investigated.
